Pom pom crafts are always a hit with kids. They’re soft, fluffy and fun to make.
All our pom poms are created with a DIY cardboard pom pom maker. You can get the template in three different sizes on the blog.
Pom pom animal crafts
NEW - This pom pom penguin is based on the Gentoo species found on Sub-Antarctic islands. Isn’t he cute?
Our pom pom chick template comes in yellow, brown, and (my favourite) patchy. Make one or all three.
Hedgehogs can be a little prickly—unless their spikes are made of fluffy yarn. Get our pom pom hedgehog template here.
Tweens and older kids will enjoy making a ‘dancing’ pom pom flamingo marionette. The neck and legs are made using finger knitting, another simple yarn craft for kids.

That's the way I learned to make pompoms back in the Sixties but without the cutout on the middle. That makes it so much easier to finish! And like you, I've not had great luck with the plastic craft store pompom makers. I'm going to try these animals with my granddaughter.
